Surface Sanding
Before we start sanding, we carefully go over the condition of the deck. We replace rotten and damaged wood surface material or joists or posts if we can see through to them. Finally we ensure that the screws are all countersunk
When we sand the old surfaces, we determine how heavy the finish is applied. Normal sanding for 'stained only' decks is usually all that is required. For refinishing old solid stain, or even painted decks, requires a much more vigorous approach.
Here we see surface sanding on the second pass with smoother sandpaper to allow wood fibers to tighten up. This was to allow the proper colour profile requested by the customer.
